Dear younger me,
If I could guess, you are probably sitting on the couch watching TV and thinking about what you're going to do for the day. Maybe even preparing for your football practice. It may seem that life is easy and there are no worries in the world, but it will get much tougher. I know it seems that you can do anything in this world with just simple hard work and dedication, and that is true, but you are going to face so many other challenges from then to now. That is why I am writing you this letter now. I wish someone would have told me these things I'm about to tell you. But, let me tell you this: You have so much going for you. Stay resilient and stay persistent.
First of all, if I could go back into your shoes I would in a heartbeat. There wasn't a worry in the world then. Just wondering what Xbox game you're getting next or getting ready for your football game. But, I hope I have made you proud. You may be upset about Mom and Dad's divorce right now, but you will soon realize the many life lessons that will come from that situation, trust me. Please keep your head up.
If there is one thing I can say to you, it is to never take any moment for granted. Spend time with Nana and especially Papaw. He won't be with us much longer. All the times that Mom, Nana or Papaw has yelled at you, don't take it personally. They just want what is best for you. They see the potential in you more than you see it in yourself.
Also, cherish the moments you spend with your friends. Because once you graduate you won't be able to go drive around blasting music and singing at the top of your lungs or laugh endlessly at your lunch table in school. All the times that you have dreaded the practices after school and thinking "Is it worth it?", it is, and it will make you grow as a person. You will learn so much about yourself. You will learn what it takes to be the best version of yourself and how to better the people around you. You might think things will be the same once you and your friends get older, but they won't; I know it sucks to hear that, but you will change and they will too. Don't take it personally. People come and go like the seasons.
One thing you need to know is that everything happens for the best. And what is meant to be will be. You will fall completely head over heels for this girl. You will have the most roller coaster relationship. Even though now you're thinking about what is going on with you two, try and be optimistic. You're young and will make rational decisions. Even though you guys won't be together, you will learn so much from it. You may have thought it was just a silly high school relationship, but you will regret it. Please just bear with it because you care so much about her. Hate to tell you, but you are just young and stupid right now.
So, younger me, please understand that you have so much going for you. You're going to grow as a person and do great things. Keep your head on straight. Also, the things you're going to go through will be tough, but you're an even tougher kid.
Sincerely,
Future you
P.S. Always stay positive.
