We've all attended at least one Young Life club event.
Last semester, JMU's Party Cartel came to Virginia Tech to host a dance party and kick off Tech's first Young Life event. JMU is known for having one of the biggest Young Life communities on the east coast, with Party Cartel DJing all of their events.
For those of you who don't know about Party Cartel, "they are the masters of parties, if you will," explains Virginia Tech sophomore and Auburn Middle School leader, Alex Morgan.
Young Life College at Virginia Tech came to life at it's first club event that took place in late March last semester. Virginia Tech's all male a capella group, Juxtaposition, gave a performance in front of hundreds of students, supporting Tech's newest club.
"The room was packed, the energy was great, and the club talk was one of the best I've ever heard. When we were debriefing, I was speechless and sobbing thinking about how many people got to hear about Jesus Christ!" exclaims sophomore Young Life College leader Sarah Mezzy.
One of the greatest things about Young Life is that although it's a religious club, you don't have to be a Christian to attend or to have a great time.
"I love going to an event or club and meeting someone I haven’t before because that’s what this organization is all about. We want to reach everyone on Tech’s campus through this ministry!" explains sophomore Young Life College leader Jenna Rayhorn.
Young Life is a great opportunity to meet new people from all over the nation. Even if you think you already know enough people, I can promise you that you won't meet people nearly as amazing and inspiring as the ones who are involved in Young Life.
"In every regard, [being a leader] means loving the people around me at Virginia Tech," says Mezzy.
The leaders at Virginia Tech have worked so hard this past year get the organization's name out to students and encourage them to come out to events.
"We know we have to be bold and not hold anything back! And man, has that paid off for us. We’ve gotten to meet so many people on this campus through this ministry and hope we are making an impact in someone’s life," says Rayhorn.
Within the next month, there will be three major Young Life events to be looking forward to. The first is the second Young Life College Dance Party featuring Party Cartel (the date to be announced). The second event is Young Life College weekend at Rockbridge from September 26-28, where all Virginia Young Life College organizations will attend. Lastly, the second club of the semester will take place on Wednesday, October 1st at 9:00 PM in Squires Old Dominion Ballroom.
Come out to one of these events this month, and be ready for a good time. "It's going to be bigger than it ever has been before!"
And if you don't believe all the hype I've been talking about, then maybe this Hokie alumni will be able to change your mind: via twitter - "1. One day I'm going to have to attend an #YLCollegeVT event." - Antone Exum, Jr.
