By
joining a club such as Young Americans for Freedom, there is an easy way to
discuss important issues that may go unnoticed by the average college student.
Anna Hubbard, one of the founders of the club at Virginia Tech, explained the purpose behind the organization.
“Whether you identify as conservative, liberal, or independent, it is important to be both aware and educated on the principles that each political stance holds,” Hubbard said. “In doing so you become a more informed voter and help make our nation better. As members of Young Americans for Freedom we wish to educated individuals about conservatism and all it entails.”
This organization is fairly new on campus, but has already made an impact on campus. Young Americans for Freedom aims to have around two events each semester to promote their organization around Virginia Tech. Last semester, they held a fundraiser on Veterans Day to honor those who served our nation. These funds went to support the Children of Fallen Soldiers Relief Fund, which provides college scholarships to children of injured or fallen service men and women.
By hosting events like these, Young Americans for Freedom aspires to make a positive impact on the community. Currently, the club is planning similar fundraisers as well as inviting public speakers and card donations for soldiers.
“There are few groups like this on campus,” Hubbard said. “Our mission is to educate and demonstrate what it means to be a young conservative, which is an area that is typically underrepresented on the average college campus.”
