If you had it your way, no person would be sad, starving, or sick. You’d be able to solve all the world’s problems in a heartbeat and you, as the hero, wouldn’t need an ounce of recognition, because you want to help. It’s your calling. The world’s problems are frightening, and the empathizing and sympathizing they cause keeps you up at night. The suffering of others is literally tearing you apart from the inside out. It’s your heroic downfall; your Achilles’ Heel. You want to save the world, but you can’t.
This isn’t news to you. You get this all the time, I’m sure. You break down and stress and spread yourself thin to help whatever, or whoever is in need. You invest yourself in the plights of others so deeply that you can’t even think of yourself or your own needs. When you can’t be there, you feel so guilty you want to die. You have canceled plans, missed meals, cut back on precious hours of sleep, all for this mission you’re on. You tell yourself you’re doing well to keep your energy up, unaware of the fact that you’re ignoring your own needs.
Even though the world needs help, it doesn’t have to be your help. Don’t lie and say you don’t feel drained because you do. You’re a single human being and your stamina level can’t handle your giving nature. Your calling is to give, yes, but not give to the point where you have nothing left for yourself. Because then what? Then you become the person who needs saving? You don’t let that sort of thing happen. No one saves you, because you’re too stubborn to let anyone try.
And that stubbornness isn’t bad, at least not all the time. But the time has come where you’re not okay, and you need to be okay in order to keep helping effectively, because taking care of yourself is important. You are so divine, so special, and your spirit is rare and beautiful. And even though you are so incredible because you are answering the call to action so many others ignore, you are not a superhero. So don’t act like it, and save yourself, first.
