You Might Be From Lawrence, Kansas If...

When people ask me where I'm from, I take pride in telling them I'm from Lawrence, Kansas- born and raised. Why, you might ask? After all, Kansas isn't an exciting state. Aha, dear reader, I'm a Lawrencian first- and Lawrence, also known as "LFK", is a town bursting with music, art, and genuineness.

At first glance you might not know you're looking at a Lawrence native, so I've devised a list of ten things that apply to Lawrence people (Townies).

10. You refer to Massachusetts Street as "Downtown"

Mass st. is the main hub of the city and is the perfect place for dining, shopping, and general hanging-out. Most businesses on Mass are local, and many Lawrencians spend their days/nights downtown.

9. You know who Dennis is

Dennis is a Lawrence resident and quite the character. He typically can be seen walking down Mass wearing crazy colors and patterns, carrying a mannequin.

8. You prefer to shop local

My boyfriend works at The Community Mercantile, or the Merc, which is one of the many local grocers in town.

7.You're fully convinced March Madness is an official holiday

At least, it is in Lawrence, where the University of Kansas is located. Our basketball team almost always makes it to the Final Four.

6. You remember Dirty Dillon's...

5. ...and Bucky's, and two Runza's, and 23rd street BK...

4. You can zoom in on the center of Google Earth and see your house

The creator of Google Earth grew up in LFK

3. You know what LFK stands for, and who invented it.

Leslie Kay invented the phrase "Lawrence F**king Kansas" in the early 2000s, and the moniker has stuck.

2. You know where to get the best cream cheese pizza in town

Just "call 842-1212"!

1. You never plan on leaving

Lawrence is a wonderful town with rich diversity, and many locals were born and raised here. We love our little blue dot.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
