Dealing with people at restaurants or bars can be a joy sometimes and other times be a complete nightmare. With each customer, you never know what you're going to get. However, you do encounter a lot of very interesting and unforgettable people. Here's a few things that every server (unfortunately) knows a little too well:
1. You're the first to get cut but someone has decided to camp out in your section so you end up staying way longer than scheduled.
2. As you start to introduce yourself, you get instantly interrupted by "water with lemon."
3. The restaurant you work at closes at 9 p.m., but a group walks in at 8:55 saying "good thing we got here before you close!"
4. Someone comes in during a rush and asks for food saying "we're in a hurry" and expects it to be done according to their time frame, not the kitchen's
5. You're overjoyed when you actually get a full 20 percent tip (which is sad and not how it should be).
6. You know the kitchen is about to hate you after you enter an absurd order from a table.
7. Your customer tells you their order but changes their mind multiple times when you mention the word "upcharge."
8. A big gamble you make is if you should add gratuity and only get an 18 percent tip, or risk it by not adding it and just pray for the full 20 percent tip.
9. You know that the customer is always right but that can be the most frustrating thing ever.
10. Each day is a constant test of your patience every time you go to work.
11. Receiving a phone number on a check but not getting a 20 percent tip can almost guarantee I won't call you.
12. Having an entire table's order messed up because someone took half your food for their table.
13. You entered the wrong order, corrected it and then entered it in wrong again.
14. You left yourself logged in on another computer and there's no one around that computer to log you out and you desperately need to enter an order.
15. When a customer says, "keep the change" as they hand you a $20 and the total was $18.00.
