Whenever you're an education major, there are definite signs that you're a teacher in the making. I find myself always thinking about my future career, and it is something that really excites me. I also catch myself at moments when I'm doing various things that makes me say, "This is only a teacher thing, isn't it?" Well, here are some reasons and things that instantly make you realize that you're a future teacher!
When you go shopping anywhere and think, "That would look great in a classroom!"
Whether it is a decoration, a poster or even a bookshelf, it seems as though the first thing that comes to mind is the way it would look in a classroom. Even seeing games or puzzles, or anything of that sort on sale makes me go crazy thinking of how I could use that in a classroom
One word: Books.
There's something about children's literature that catches the eye of every single teacher. Thinking about lesson plans and activities that could go with a book is the first thing that comes to mind. Nothing is more exciting than a Scholastic Book order form or entering the children's section at a book store. Easily a teacher's favorite place.
Your "teacher voice" comes out unexpectedly.
Various times I have found myself talking to adults or even children outside of school and I find myself using my "teacher voice." At a family picnic over the summer, a soon-to-be fifth grader told me I could put away my teacher voice because it was summer vacation. Whoops!
Your teacher planning skills also makes a frequent appearance.
I am very guilty of this one. Being teacher is a very time consuming job. Everything has to be strategically planned out and plans must be made ahead of time. Quite commonly I can be referred to as the party planner of the group. Again, just my teacher instincts!
And what about clothes?
Going shopping is very deadly to my bank account. Whether I'm looking in a store or online, everything I see makes me think, "I could totally wear that in a classroom." So, there is my simple excuse to buying more clothes.
And finally, your Pinterest page is full of different education boards.
Aesthetic experiences, diversity, hands on education-- you name it and it's there. Pinterest is a deadly place to go whenever boredom takes over and your teacher side comes out. It isn't like all of the recommend pins are all educational anyways, right?
Knowing you are a teacher in the making is a wonderful thing. If you were going for education, and these signs didn't occur, I would say you're in for the wrong career choice. The thought of molding and influencing such little brains is such an exciting thought for me. I wouldn't want my life any other way. So current and future teachers, do any of these ring true to you? Happy teaching!
