You don't have to be a Nobody

You don't have to feel like a nobody with a God like ours.

You don't have to be a Nobody

I once heard the quote by an anonymous source, “I’m just a nobody telling everybody about somebody who can save anybody.” When I first read this quote I thought about the great commission in Matthew 28:19-20, which says, “Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.” This quote is the essence of living a Christian life, and also how we should view ourselves, others, and God.

First, how should we view ourselves according to this saying? We need to first remember that we are “nobody's.” As harsh as that sounds, it couldn't be more true for some of us. For some, we are just another body taking up space and adding a number to the census count. But luckily we can be more, we can have value, we can have hope, and we can have unceasing and unending love that encompasses us at all times. When we become a Christian our whole identity changes from a nobody to someone who now has an identity rooted in a being bigger and greater than any of us could ever be. Ephesians 1:5 states, “He predestined us for adoption to sonship through Jesus Christ, in accordance with his pleasure and will.” He wanted from the beginning to make us a part of his family and give us the name Christian, because without Him we will remain nobody’s.

But as soon as we are rooted in Him and have placed our identity in His word, we need to tell EVERYBODY. In order to be a Christian it is not enough to just read your Bible, send a card, prepare food, sing songs in worship, pray every once in a while, etc. Being a Christian encompasses all these on a daily, unceasing basis. As stated earlier the great commission commands us to GO, we must go and do all we can to bring souls to Him. When we wear the name Christian why wouldn't we want to share it? Why wouldn't we want to tell everyone we know about this SOMEBODY. A somebody who gave His life so that we can have hope, so that we can have forgiveness and grace and mercy. How much do we have to hate someone to let them go to hell? Because in essence when we don't tell EVERYBODY about this SOMEBODY, we are sending them to their doom. Finally, we can't just tell everybody about this Somebody without telling them that He can SAVE ANYBODY. No matter how much bad they have done, no matter who they have been, no matter where they have gone, He is waiting with open arms to accept us and bring us home. We serve a God who can save anybody because of the love that He has for us even when we don't always dedicate our lives to Him.

We may be a nobody before finding an identity in Christ, but we can be a nobody because all the glory belongs to God anyway so if we are a nobody who is “telling everybody about somebody who can save anybody," we are on the path to being the Christian that God has asked us to be. Because if we are concerned entirely on getting people to Heaven, then we have to get ourselves there as well and isn't that the whole purpose?

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
