10 Signs You Are a Workaholic
blogs.nature.com

Some of us were born with a need to work hard. It's in our nature and in our bones. Some people call us crazy, but it's a lifestyle. All of us workaholics live and breathe with a burning passion. Unless you're like us, you just won't understand.

Here's 10 signs you are a workaholic:

1. You create work for yourself for the sole purpose of having more work to do.

Yes, that's right. When workaholics start to cross off too many to-dos, we find more things to add. Why? We've become so accustomed to having a large workload that it's stressful NOT having a lengthy to-do list.

2. Speaking of to-do lists, don't mess with mine.

My to-do list and planner is my life. Want to single-handedly ruin my life? Steal my planner with (all of) my to-do lists. There's really nothing worse you could do to me than that.

3. You can support yourself.

Some might say you're only a workaholic because you want to afford to live by yourself and have a decent lifestyle without anyone's help, but we workaholics know that's only a benefit of it.

4. "Wait, how many jobs do I have?"

We create so many jobs for ourselves we forget how many we have. One full-time job with one part-time job soon becomes three part-time jobs. Yes, I'll walk your dog three times a week. Yes, I'll design this ad for you. Yes, I'll do your accounting for your business. It doesn't ever end.

5. Coffee becomes a meal.

What am I having for pre-breakfast? Coffee. Morning snack? Coffee. Afternoon snack? Coffee. Bedtime relaxer? Half-caff coffee.

6. Your friends have given up on you.

When your friends ask to hang out, you get out your planner and pencil them in two weeks in advance. You work so much that your friends need to have an appointment in your calendar like your clients do. Last minute hang outs? Practically impossible. Sorry friends, you know I love you dearly, but I have to work.

7. "Dating? What is that?"

If you think hanging out with your friends is tough, try dating when you're a workaholic. There is no such thing. If it does happen, please don't expect much; I've probably tried to cram in all my work before you picked me up instead of primping my hair and make-up.

8. You seize every opportunity and then rise to the top.

"Started from the bottom now we here," actually describes your life. With every new endeavor, your hard work is appreciated and gets you to high places. If your hard work is not appreciated, you simply say good-bye and move onto the next adventure.

9. You are frugal with your money.

You ask yourself, do I really need this? If the answer is yes, then you ask, did I work hard enough to deserve this?

10. You appreciate downtime more than the average person.

There's no better feeling than having a productive day and being done working at a decent time. In celebration, you take your few hours off from working by drinking a glass of wine, taking a bath and curling up in bed with a good book. Oh, and actually getting a good night's sleep. To a workaholic, there's nothing better than that.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
