Christmas trees are such an important part of the holiday season. Whether big or small, real or fake, a Christmas tree has so much meaning to each family, and shows a piece of what you represent. To me, every tree I see always looks different and carries a different elegance. A Christmas tree is all about the love put into decorating and garnishing it.
When decorating a tree, I need people around me whether actively or inactively helping, I just need people to be there. This year, while putting up my tree, my grandma was on the chair instructing and giving me and mom pointers. It was enough to make me giddy. The holidays, especially Christmas is the celebration of family, and being together. Though the nativity story may sometimes get lost, I love that Christmas has a way of making everyone feel warm and fuzzy. When I think of the holidays, I never groan or sigh, there’s always a feeling of excitement and happiness that overcomes me- and one major reason is my tree.
Decorating a tree for Christmas is almost the second kickoff for the preparation of the season to come, right after Thanksgiving of course.
My tree represents who I am as a person and the style I possess. A Christmas tree, no matter how adorned or bare continuously tells a story. The colors you choose to decorate with, the ribbons that are used, the color lights, how much lights, it all comes together to show, in simplest terms- you.
I don’t think any Christmas tree is the same as someone else’s. They may use the same colors, same ribbon, same amount and types of light, but you’ll always get something different- and that is the beauty of your tree. I think it’s funny when walking into a family’s home, by looking at a tree, you have a sense of who decorated it. Whether the pattern type, the amount of decorations, or the overall look, you know whose tree that is.
I look at a tree as a model- and you’re the designer. You place your first stitch when you put the tree together, and when the layout is done- it’s time for the magic to happen. Your embroidery is how you make your tree different from a day dress to a party dress. All it takes is that one detail to make it all different from it being your friend’s to yours.
A tree shouldn’t be something to stress about- it should actually be the complete opposite- something to de-stress with, and put your pent up energy into. It shouldn’t be something forced and mechanical, but something free-flowing and relaxed, and most importantly it should be fun!
A tree, like most things can cause stress- but don’t forget this is your design and there are no wrong answers. Your tree is your brainstorm being put into action and creativity. Some trees only have lights, some only ornaments, some with real stuffed animals, and some with nothing at all. With all these actions, in the end, it is still yours.
