I know that we’ve all seen the updates and pictures on Instagram and Facebook.
Nowadays, it seems like everyone is either getting engaged/married/pregnant/having their first child/getting into a relationship/graduating/getting a new job or getting a promotion.
Of course all of this news is wonderful and its always exciting to see what other people are doing in their lives, but it’s pretty easy to start comparing yourself to others.
Trust me, I don’t blame you.
Seeing everyone achieve what you hope to achieve or be where you hope to be one day is exciting and intimidating all at the same time. It’s natural for us to want to panic and feel inadequate in some sort of way, however, DO NOT FALL INTO THIS WAY OF THINKING.
The worst thing that you can do is begin to compare where you are in your life to others because, you know what? We’re all different and we all have a different story to tell.
I’m sure many of us are familiar with the ever so famous quote, “Don’t compare your chapter 1 to another person’s chapter 20.”
This is probably the simplest way to explain what it is that I want to say, but for a more detailed explanation, please continue to read.
We all have dreams and aspirations, desires, wants, needs, and hope that one day we’ll get to where we want to be, but comparing yourself to others will not help you get there.
I know that I’m definitely not where I thought I would be at the age of 22. I thought that by now I would have graduated college, been engaged and planning my dream wedding, all while somehow landing an amazing job and owning a house…yeah, I’m definitely not there yet and probably won’t be for a while. In fact, a lot of those expectations have changed now and it’s crazy to imagine that over time my dreams have changed, but you know what? THAT’S OKAY.
Like I said earlier, we all have a different story to tell and we all have a different version of “happily ever after.”
Sure, we all hope to land our dream job one day, meet our prince charming or our princess, and even touch the lives of others, but the best way to achieve such dreams is to take each day one step at a time.
I always tell myself that as long as I can go to bed each night being able to confidently say that I did my best that day, then I know I’m doing exactly what I need to be doing.
Now it’s time to think, what can you do every day that can help you to move forward?
I know that it’s not always that simple. We go through rough times and experience periods of our lives that seem mundane and not “up to par,” but that’s all part of the process! I guarantee you that the pictures you’re seeing on Instagram and Facebook are direct results of times of hardships and times where things seemed to be at a standstill.
Keep on going guys, the best is yet to come!
