When people ask me what my religion is I proudly state: I am a Christian. I have no shame in what I believe in and not afraid to show it. I get the response of "oh so you think you're perfect?" or "so you think you're better than me?'' The truth is no I don't think I am better than your nor even close to perfect. I fail my father daily, yet he still loves me. Every day I sin even when I am unaware of it. I hold grudges, put myself first, struggle with insecurities and more. The fact is I am not a perfect Christian, no one is.
You hear all these stereotypes that Christians are hypocrites because they judge others for sinning, but in reality we don't. We accept you and your sin because God accepts us and our sins. We understand that we are not perfect even when we have a healthy relationship with Christ.
When I say I am a Christian, I am saying that I am dirty, a mess, weak, and I need a savior. Being a Christian is more than just following a set of rules that make up a religion. It's about accepting the fact that we can't always follow those rules but continue to build that relationship with Christ. As Christians; we understand that there is no way that we can be perfect.
We are humans and in our human nature, we sin. No sin is higher than others. All sin is equal. That is the cool thing about God that he knows and understand that we are not perfect, and that is why he sent his son down to pay the punishment for us. How cool is it that I can serve a God who loves me and my flaws.
So when I say I am a Christian, I am not saying I am perfect or better than you. I am one of you who knows I can't do this alone, and that is why I am a Christian.
