Another year over, another year of mistakes. But guess what? You get to leave those old mistakes in the past and make more in the future with your newfound understanding. This is your chance. Now it’s time to reinvent yourself, and what better time to start than the New Years?
The great thing about resolutions is that they are endless, timeless, and hopeful. It’s anything you ever want and everything you want to become. You could resolve to lose 20 pounds or agree to say yes to more opportunities, you could make it a goal to listen to more music, or decide to learn how to do the splits. You can do it all, you can do anything, and the best part is you want to.
These goals we set up are ours. And maybe they correlate with someone else's, maybe they’re exactly the same. Maybe half the world wants to lose weight, and you know what, that’s fantastic. I am sick of hearing people complain about how everyone wants to lose weight for the New Year and how crowded the gyms get. Oh it’s so annoying that there’s so many people working out now but where were they all year?
All I have to say to that is fuck off. Gym memberships are cheapest at the start of the year. People want to better themselves at the start of the year. So no shit there’s going to be a lot of people working out. What’s so bad about that? You know what your New Year's resolution should be, to stop complaining about insignificant things that doesn’t impact you or anyone else globally. And that’s all there is to that.
But even if you have the same goal as a lot of other people, or you’re continue your goal from years prior, that doesn’t make it any less yours. We get to chose how this year ends up. Are we going to let our goals sit for another year? No. Not this year. This is the one that changes everything. This is the year we become our best selves, and don’t let anyone tell you otherwise.
To hell with anyone who says New Year’s resolutions are pointless and set you up for failure. Why be scared of goals? Why be frightened of a journey that could fail? Then nobody would try anything new, ever. So do something. Try something crazy or maybe just slightly out of the ordinary. Shoot beyond the damn stars and make this year one of your best memories yet. Because like my dad always says, we only have one life on this Earth so why not do what makes you happy? No matter how scary that may be, this is it, this is your year, so be happy.
