8 New Year Resolutions, Based Off Popular Songs

Yes, 2016 is here. It's time to reflect the changes you wish to bring in with the new year. However, following through with those changes, now that is the tricky part. I'm sure most of you have an entire list of expectations you hope 2016 will bring. Although, how many resolutions actually work out as planned?

Before you set yourself up for disappointment, create realistic goals that are achievable for yourself. Do not say you hope to lose 30 pounds in two weeks, because frankly, that just won't work. You know your body and yourself, so keep your resolutions to a degree that is reachable.

And hey, why not listen to a little music to get yourself on the right track? It can seriously influence and change your mood in a blink of an eye.

Here are some resolutions, based off popular hits, we all need to hear to start the year off right.

1. "Won't look back" Duke Dumont

I understand reminiscing the past brings back joyous, or unpleasant memories, but how can you move forward in life when you are blinded by what's already happened? Why not start to look ahead of yourself, because what is behind you, will only paralyze you in the end.

2. "Focus" Ariana Grande

It's easy to lose focus on what went wrong in 2015, but why not focus on what's to come, and what's actually important. So what if you were in a toxic relationship/friendship in the past, or had hardships with school, or work? It's time to focus on how to make your life right again. Improve yourself. You can do it.

3. "Confident" Demi Lovato

What many young adolescents lack these days is self-confidence. You should boost your confidence this year by making positive changes in your routine. Go to the gym more, give up sweets, eat healthier. Building confidence will better yourself, and the people around you.

4. "Not Afraid"- Eminem

Don't be afraid of change. Change is good. Gather up the courage to remake your future and start a fresh and new path for yourself. Remember, you're never alone.

5. "Drag Me Down" One Direction

Do whatever you please. This new year, you can conquer anything. Nobody can drag you down and tell you what you can and can't do.

6. "Break Free" Ariana grande

It's time to step out of that comfort zone of yours. Break down those boundaries you've been so scared to overcome. Break free of those insecurities that held you back for so long. Life is a ticking time bomb, so why not enjoy it.

7. "Love Myself" Hailee Steinfeld

Everyone should understand there is much power in providing for yourself. You don't ever need someone else to empower you. Instead of living in constant uncertainty whether others love you, how about you love yourself. That's most important.

8. "We Got The World" Icona Pop

What are you waiting for? The world is waiting for you to conquer it. The possibilities are endless, and the world is in your hands to make these possibilities, reality.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
