In early July 2016, a man made a wrong turn and was shot and killed by a cop during a traffic stop in Falcon Heights, Minnesota. This is a poem to remember the people involved in the tragedy that occurred.
A man made a wrong turn.
In a perfect world, his broken taillight
Would cost him a ticket,
Not his life.
As millions watched his final moments,
A child, the epitome of innocence,
A child whose melanin content should matter
(but did)
Was robbed of her childhood.
A four-year-old pleaded her mother
to stop crying,
a sight no child should ever see.
On this day, a diamond lost her sparkle
And as time passes,
The glimmer within dark eyes begins to fade.
