Why we write, why do we write? Writers are often misunderstood people who often either will seclude themselves from the world they inhabit or will immerse themselves highly in it, while at the same time creating a new one. We are misunderstood for the fact that we are constantly looking for a story; looking for a new piece to write about, a new idea. We never stop, we can’t stop, that’s just not who we are. Writers are constantly creating something whether it be a story about a recent event, a personal event, or even something as simple as what they saw on their drive in to work. When we write, every letter, every word, every sentence, every paragraph, every story, has a little bit of our souls embedded in it. We breathe life to new ideas, sharing our minds with the world. As renowned author Ernest Hemingway once said, “There is nothing to writing. All you do is sit down at a typewriter and bleed.” Everything we say or do represents who we are as a writer, as well as who we are as an individual.
There truly is nothing to writing. Writing is just our thoughts and ideas put into words on paper. Writing may be how we express ourselves with the use of various words and sentence structures with the effect that you just don’t get by uttering the words themselves. Writing is a form of therapy, a way to show how you feel without ever having to express it. It’s a way to rid yourself of your demons, to release them out onto paper. It is a way to create your life, rather than have your life created for you; writing gives way to new journeys and possibilities, both real and those that are imaginable. You don’t have to be a writer to be a writer because everyone’s a writer. Everyone has something to say, an idea that they want to put forth.
So why do we write? There are countless reasons as to why we write. Those reasons range from A to Z and everywhere in between. Writing lets you create the door instead of opening it. It allows you to understand everything in a new creative light because virtually anything can be turned into a story if one tries hard enough. Like Hemingway said, "All you need to do is sit down and bleed and the idea you are creating with flow."
So all you need to do is bleed and something will come.
