What You Should Do If You Are Dealing WIth Writers Block

Say you are an author like me. You write for several different places. Like this website you are currently reading this on and freelance writing. Now for both you can write almost whatever you want. That sounds absolutely amazing right. So you have a list of ideas and such. And you are ready to have fun with this.

But then one day, although you have added to the list. You have run out of ideas for this. You look over your writing desk with horror and shame. You scramble to write something, anything. You do not care if it is good or bad. You just need to write something so that you can get your work done. You look at yourself on the medium sized mirror on the wall with such shame and disgrace. You thought this day would never come. That you would be writing all the time and doing a spectacular job.

Hold yourself.

I am here to help. I have been in this situation so many times it is not even funny. I write a lot of fiction and nonfiction. And trust me writing fiction can be a pain in the neck as well. Nonfiction sounds easy because it is just facts and maybe the occasional opinion.

Now this is what to do if you do not know what to write about for either.

First. Take a break. I mean it. Do not think about writing or anything to do with it. Get out of your little office and go interact with some other human beings. There is no need for you to be hunched over your desk constantly . You are a human being too you deserve to relax. Take a deep breath and just relax. Think about your favorite animal. My favorite is deer so I go into my backyard (weather permitting) and see if there are any deer outside for me to enjoy, if not I go play with my pets. Which is still wonderful by the way.

Next. Talk to people you are close to. Tell them of your dilemma and ask them for help. And if they give you topics, that is awesome! If not it is okay. We always have a plan 3 (or is it Plan C… argh I do not even know sometimes, so do not ask me).

You know what. Reader. Go live. Go live your life as freely as you so please. Be yourself. Explore new hobbies. Spend time with your loved ones. Go on nature walks. Live. Read new books. Listen to different music. I want you to live dear reader. Because in the end, as they say, writing is based on experiences. And If you do not have recollections of memories and interesting experiences then why write? As someone who just recently relearned to love myself, I try to make the best of every single moment. Even if the moment is stressful and annoying. I tell myself “if this did not happen I may be a different person yet again.”

You will come up with a writing idea. I know you will. I believe in you. Just listen to me. You need to go out there and live. Go be yourself and meet new people and still cherish your old buddies and your family members. Enjoy everything. Because that night when you come back to your desk you can write something about your experiences and give advice to other readers. Life is precious, so put down this article. And go have fun!

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
