My whole family was into the "Harry Potter" series growing up. Both my older brother and dad read through every single book. Then they made my younger brother and I sit through the movies before we were old enough to appreciate it. To this day, the "Harry Potter" books are still among my favorites, and I'll still happily sit through all of the movies.
There were reports a while back that Warner Bros. may be planning to relaunch the series as a TV show. While those rumors have been squashed since then, I still can't help but wonder what it would've been like to have a "Harry Potter" TV series instead of a movie series. Would it have been better as a TV show?
Like I said before, I love the movie series. I also feel like the movies were a pivotal moment in film history. However, from a literature perspective, the films are missing quite a bit. As someone who has read all the books and seen all the movies, I can honestly say the movies only made sense to me after reading the books.
A TV show would give more time for those details we missed out on in the initial movies. We would also get to explore a lot more of Hogwarts, and there'd be more time for a backstory of the Wizarding World before Harry is brought into it. But a TV show would also be missing the original cast we all fell in love with. It would make it feel like a different story.
If the show was done right, it could extend the life of this series far beyond what we already know. The question is whether or not it's worth it. With "Fantastic Beasts" still under works, and with how large the online community is, does the "Harry Potter" world really need any help expanding?
In my opinion, it probably doesn't.
Would I love to see a TV series sometime in the future? Of course, I would. I would watch it in a heartbeat. However, it's not necessary right now.
