I, like many, am an avid fan of television. If we're being completely honest here, about 54.23% of my time is spent watching people through a screen. And trust me, I'd have it no other way. Through watching good ole tv, I've acquired many fave shows.
My top shows of all time definitely include "The Office", "Friends", "Parks and Recreation", "Riverdale", and "New Girl". I could literally watch them all day, every day and be the most content you've ever seen. But, with this being said, I've run into a few characters that make me hate myself for loving them because they're incredibly problematic. Some are kinda racist and cocky, lack morals, are terrible at relationships, and walk all over their friends. Mm mm mm.
Michael Scott from "The Office"
Anyone who ever watches "The Office" knows just how far Michael Scott can and will go. Michael is the manager of Dunder Mifflin paper company and is an actual man-child. He is somewhat racist and homophobic. Scratch that. He's sensationally racist and homophobic. He once outed an accountant at Dunder Mifflin as being gay without his consent, and to make up for it he forcefully kissed the accountant in front of the office. As Michelle Tanner would say, "Uh-uh, not cool."
Ross Gellar from "Friends"
Ross Gellar is not to be trusted. Ross the smart paleontologist from "Friends" is the worst at relationships. Actually, that's an understatement. He has been married THREE TIMES in the span of ten years, and even tried to force Rachel Green to stay married to him when she wanted a divorce. Who does that?!Moreover, moments after Rachel and Ross momentarily split early on in the show, he slept with another woman, like his relationship with Rachel never mattered! But according to them, they were on a "break." Yeah, right
Jean-Ralphio Saperstein from "Parks and Recreation"
Jean Ralphio is a character I truly hate loving. Jean-Ralphio gives Joanne the Scammer a run for her money. "Parks and Recreation's" Jean Ralphio is the epidemy of all things greed and scam. He once purposefully walked in front of a truck to sue the truck company. Insert shook meme here.He is also very sexist and pursues women even after they've turned him down. Ew. And his family is the worst. Mona Lisa Ralphio is the most terrible person you'll ever meet. She's the female version of Jean-Ralphio. Yikes.
Archie Andrews from "Riverdale"
"Riverdale's" Archie Andrews is problematic in a less obvious kind of way. He slept and dated his best friend, Betty Andrew's, best friend, Veronica Lodge, knowing that Betty had crazy feelings for him. *Screams* Then, Archie loses his mind in Season Two and buys a gun and essentially assembles a gang to kill a murderer. Why fight violence with violence, Arch? Why? And during one of his standoffs with a rival gang, one of his friends gets stabbed which is totally his fault. Damn, Archiekins!
Winston Schmidt from "New Girl"
Last, but not least, we have to talk about "New Girl's" Schmidt. His confidence has reached the point of no return and has become full-fledged cockiness. His roommates literally had to make a "Douche Bag" jar for Schmidt to deposit money into whenever he's being too douchey and let's just say I could pay my college tuition with how much money is in the jar. And he says the most racist and sexist things you'll ever hear in your whole life. He thinks he's better than everyone and verbally let's this be known often. And he's a Trump supporter. Enough said.
My favorite shows are my favorite for a reason and I will scream my love for them off the mountain tops. But, some characters do make me ponder on whether or not these shows should be my faves. But to make matters worse, I don't hate any of the characters mentioned! They make the show given how problematic they are. I mean "The Office" wouldn't be as hilarious if it wasn't for Michael's inappropriate and ill-timed jokes. I love and will continue to love my fave shows, but there are bound to be some sighs and head shakes whenever Michael, Ross, Jean-Ralphio, Archie, or Schmidt make an appearance, but this is a sacrifice I'm so willing to make.
