Hang On During The Last Few Weeks Of The Semester!

It's the most wonderful time of the year, but it's the worst time of the semester.

Hang On During The Last Few Weeks Of The Semester!

I get it. I'm currently drowning in work, from exams to papers to speeches and presentations. I'm lucky if I even have a second to sit down and process my thoughts, and I rarely do. If I do have free time, I always think of something I could be getting a head start on or something I should be studying for. Any college student can relate to this: It's the most wonderful time of the year, but the worst time of the semester.

Thanksgiving is fast approaching with Christmas following not too far behind it. Here at Penn State, our break starts in about a week. And while I long for this break, an actual break where I don't have to plan my days hour-by-hour, I also dread it. If you think about it, we only have two weeks after Thanksgiving break before finals week. This isn't a lot of time to get our grades where we want them to be or to start adequately preparing for final exams. Time is flying by before our eyes, and there isn't a single thing we can do to stop it! Yes, I am stressed, and I'm sure a lot of you are as well.

Don't let crunch time get the best of you.

Force yourself to do something that makes you happy, and give yourself a window of time to relax. Don't convince yourself you don't have time to relax because you most likely do, even if it's just for 5 minutes. Constantly working without any breaks is not good for the mind or body.

Listen to your favorite music while you work or study, watch a movie or show on Netflix before going to bed, read a book to clear your mind. Do something you genuinely enjoy because it will greatly benefit you when it's time to put in hours of work. It'll also give you something to look forward to!

Don't let the stress win. I know it's way easier said than done because I've had my fair share of almost breakdowns over work too. Practice breathing exercises. It may sound silly, but they actually help. They also help when it comes to sleeping!

As far as sleeping goes, take naps if you can, but don't sleep too much. Getting inadequate sleep is not good for you, but getting a little too much sleep can be equally as bad.

Just trust yourself. Take a deep breath. We're all going through it right now. Trust me, I know. Use the upcoming breaks as motivation! Soon enough you'll be eating turkey with your family, and then exchanging gifts as it snows a couple of weeks after that! You got this!

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

Top 10 Reasons My School Rocks!

Why I Chose a Small School Over a Big University.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
