I Asked 50 Girls About Their Worst Break-Up Experiences And This Is What They Said

It's officially the week of Valentine's Day. Some argue it's the most romantic day of the year. Others, like myself, believe you should be loving and treating your significant other well every day of the year. In an effort to counter-act this Hallmark-holiday...I asked 50 women about their worst experiences in romantic situations, both in how they've been broken up with and how they've broken up with others. Here are the top 10 unedited, completely honest and raw responses to each question:

Question: "What's the worst way you've ever been broken up with?"

1. "I had a guy get me to help him get back together with his ex fiance....on our date. We didn't last long"

2. "He broke up with me in front of three of my good friends."

3. "In high school, I had a boyfriend who was two year's younger than me. That should have been my first clue. We lived just a couple houses down from each other so we were together pretty frequently. One afternoon, we had hung out all day and nothing seemed out of the ordinary. After I got home, quite soon after I walked in the door of my house, he text me to tell me he was breaking up with me. I had been with him all afternoon but he didn't have the balls to do it to my face!"

4. "He wrote it in big letters and taped that shit to my locker."

5. "We went from talking everyday to absolute crickets. This man wanted to spend his life with me and have my kids? All the sudden we were strangers. I was busy volunteering and missed the call. When I called back saying it was not a good time things were super awkward and I was like, "Want me to call you back?" He said no and I hung up the phone. We didn't talk again for four years."

6. "Well, my first boyfriend broke up with me via Facebook messenger on the day my cat got put to sleep so that sucked, and my last boyfriend called me to tell me he reconciled with his ex which took me by complete surprise because all he did was talk about how awful she was...she had him arrested at one point!"

7. "I was hit head on by a semi, and it totaled my car. My mom sent me money to buy a car. My ex didn't even ask questions, just automatically assumed a guy sent it to me. While I was on the phone thanking my mom, he came over and starting screaming at me that I was a cheating whore...He then told me I had to leave the place we were renting to own, and said that he was being nice and giving me 20 minutes to leave before he came back with he cops and had me removed."

8. "Complete and total blackout. He ignored me for months and kept dodging my calls and texts."

9. "I received an email telling me we were better as friends...on Valentine's Day."

10. "My ex-husband asked for a divorce on a post-it note stuck to the light on the nightstand."

Question: "What's the worst way you've ever broken up with someone?"

1. "I broke up with a guy over text. Oh, and one guy at prom!"

2 "I broke up with him on Facebook."

3. "When I moved I had been in a relationship, but he stayed back in our hometown and had planned to move later on. A month later, he drove down (a 12 hour trip), in the car with my father to spend Thanksgiving. He was supposed to take the opportunity to find a job and actually take the initiative to make the move as I already had. Except he didn't. He sat in the living room of my apartment and played video games the entire weekend. So, late the last night, before he was planning on driving back home with my dad, I broke the news to him. I was starting a new life, he wasn't going to fit into it. So we needed to break up. Well, he cried. He cried a lot. He cried all night. Then he cried the entire trip back to NY with my father. We hadn't been dating that long and his parents hated me. I really didn't think he'd take it that badly. If I had known he was going to cry for the entire 12-hour drive IN THE CAR WITH MY FATHER, I would have waited..."

4. "Through a text message - not original, but I hate confrontation."

5. "I broke up with someone over the phone while I was sick. For a whole week all I could do was lay in bed in a pool of my own snot and question the meaning of life."

6. "The worst way I broke up with someone was walking away and not looking back. Not taking texts or calls, no emails, block him and every member of his family and friends on Facebook, and then move 1300 miles away to make sure my point was hammered home."

7. "I basically forced him to break up with me because I didn't have the balls to do it myself...that's my biggest regret."

8. "I couldn't say it to his face. So I made my friend tell him for me."

9. "Well...he basically caught me on the couch with his brother. Not my best moment."

10. "We had just finished sleeping together, and I had this realization that I just couldn't do it. So I told him I was done, and that was it."

In light of this Valentine's Day: Even if you don't have a date, be thankful you're not in the shoes of the people above and their situations. If you do have a date, hope it doesn't end in catastrophe like those above, and be thankful when it doesn't and you have a wonderful time with the person you love.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
