The Need For World Peace

It is time that World Peace becomes reality and not an ideology

The world today just cannot catch a break from the repetitive sin called violence. Just about every single day we hear some new story regarding cruel and senseless activity, which unfortunately usually results with death. It seems nearly impossible to escape such terrible news from reaching our ears. Every developing story and update I see on the news only becomes more and more sickening. Nothing is changing, and all I see behind those updates is a number, a death toll. Without an answer to these questions, I still ask myself the same every day. What are we doing? Why are we doing so little to try and prevent worldwide panic? Why does that "number" have to exist?

Our purpose as humans could be defined in millions of different ways; there is no wrong answer.

Except one.

As we have all seen throughout our world history and up to present day, we have proven more than capable as a species to create violence, death and destruction, but that does mean we should or feel inclined to. We were given complex cognitive abilities and intellectual thought for a reason, and those gifts are by far the most abused. This disregard is driving our beautiful societal world into primitive dismay. We are becoming no better than unsophisticated, barbaric animals.

This is not what we should be concerning ourselves with day in and day out, but sadly, one cannot be too careful. I have heard many speculations on how some believe that the most recent events, such as the attacks in Paris and around the world, will stir a potential "World War III." I told myself there's absolutely no way that could possibly happen and quickly shot down any idea on the matter. Although, it is interesting how quickly a perspective can change. Not once did I think another world war would be plausible in the slightest, but after hearing about how the Russian Su-24 warplane was shot out of the sky by Turkish forces after all of the other nonsensical killings that have taken place, I began to feel bad premonitions coming. We can keep saying ISIS this and ISIS that and while it is the world's and every nation's biggest threat, there is one feat that we have yet to accomplish before we can defeat foes like these terrorists. It is that of unity and peace between all nations. As the days go by and tensions grow, World War III doesn't seem all that crazy considering how angry and fed up everyone is with one another.

The biggest issue I have seen, in myself as well, is how death and war have been almost entirely desensitized by numerous of individuals. The emotion(s) one should be feeling have now taken a total 180 flip in the wrong direction. It's not that I'm saying people don't care because they do, but now everything seems off kilter. I don't believe that this is any individual's fault, but it is because death and violence are so prevalent in today's society that it seems to me that people just "assimilate" to hearing about it and get "used to it." It is a scary thought, but something very true in my eyes.

I know we always say that "something needs to be done," but now it's that time. We don't want war. We don't want any more death and suffering. We want a prosperous life for every living being on Earth. We may all look very different, but we are all one family. It is time World Peace becomes a term of reality and not a fictional ideology.

I dream of the day we actually call for peace and mean it.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
