A major issue that has been occurring for decades and continues today is the constant protests of “___ Lives Matter”. Whether it’s Black Lives Matter, Blue Lives Matter, White Lives Matter, or what have you, it’s all true. Every life on this planet matters and does not deserve to be ridiculed or discriminated against due to the color of their skin, profession, or social status. Certain issues have been controversial in our nation, sparking uprisings and bringing people together to show the world why they matter. This is very important and other people need to hear their side of the story and make a change toward positivity in this world. This ongoing issue of “hate” has made me question many people’s actions and thoughts, and has even made me question where the humanity has gone. We were all put on this planet for a reason, and we were made to be treated as equals. Why is that so hard for people to understand?
Growing up, I was taught by my parents, piers, and surroundings that discrimination of any kind was bad. I strongly believe that people should not be judged by their skin color, the way they dress, their gender or sexual preference, where they came from, or who they aspire to be. None of that matters. The exterior of a person does not matter. A person should be judged, if they are to be judged at all, by what they hold on the inside. Personality, mannerisms, soul, and the way a person treats others make up the best part of a person, and people sometimes forget that. Almost everyone is guilty of being too quick to judge and often feel discouraged to like/talk to a person if they feel something is off with their appearance. And that is something that needs to change.
People, now more than ever, are standing up for others and supporting others in times of need and distress. It’s a beautiful thing to feel so strongly about someone or something, but the reasons behind them are heartbreaking. People are being accused of things because of the color of their skin. People are making assumptions about an entire race altogether because of a select few people. People are holding on to grudges from the past, and refuse to let them go in a new day in age. People are still being discriminated against for being a woman. People are even being discriminated against for being a man. Sexual and gender preferences also continue to be an issue. All of these things were issues in the past, and even though we think times are changing, it still remains an issue for many.
I am a firm believer that everything happens for a reason. People are made to look the way they do for a reason. They were put on Earth with a purpose, and one of those purposes is to not hate other people, because we are really all the same. We are the same species, yet we continue to look at our own kind with disgust and hate because they look different or believe in something different. It’s hard to understand why a person would waste so much energy hating someone or something for reasons that don’t make sense. If we all just left people to act as an individual, and made peace with the fact that we all deserve to live equally among each other without fear and animosity, the world would be a much better place.
