With the recent span of attacks in the United Kingdom and the attacks that go on daily across the globe, I felt it important to write about how I as many others stand with the victims of these attacks. With the most recent attack in London, the United States was represented very poorly by our President which has been the theme for us as of late. For those who will say Trump responded well, I will follow this is up with tweets from leaders across the globe and let the disappointment ensue.
As you can see most of the world responded like a normal person with sympathy and compassion and Trump responded with political jabs and nonsense. This is not representative of how most Americans feel towards the areas that these attacks have affected. We as a nation should know what it is like to feel the pain of a terror attack and should also know the compassion and love we felt from other countries after the attacks of 9/11.
So, to the world I would like to say this, many Americans stand by your side and want to help in any way possible. These attacks are not a motive to push a political agenda and most of us know that. We stand in solidarity with these nations and are appalled by the acts of these cowards.
For me personally, I am going to be visiting London in the next few weeks where I plan to show the locals how we really feel. I am not going to be scared of seeing what the world has to offer and no one else should be either. Living your life scared will result in nothing but regret and disappointment. Living your life scared results in a win for these terrorists and begins to create panic.
My message for London and the world is to stay strong, stand together, and lend a hand where needed. In times like these, I like to think of a line from one of the greatest presidents of all time. Abraham Lincoln once said, “A house divided against itself cannot stand.” The world must stand together to reach a common good.
I realize that this message may never reach the people that it should, but it is an important message to spread regardless. While in my travels across Europe I plan to make friendships that will last across the divisions of race, gender, ethnicity, religion, and borders. I look forward to experiencing a culture that I am not used to and being accepted by others in that culture. I hope the world comes to the realization soon that subtle differences are not enough to kill or hate over.
