A World At Stake

We've come so far, yet so far away from a peaceful life.

Have you ever just looked at someone and thought how cool it was to see them grow into the person they became? Picture how cool it is to see them evolve throughout the years?

Now do it with the world that you live in. What has changed and how do you view it? It's probably not as innocent as the person you were just looking at.

The world's history has been filled with war, crime, death, hate, love, depression, joy, success, you name it. Just like any journey, it takes turns and dips and flashes of different emotions here and there. Despite all of these differences in feelings and emotions, the whole world has one thing in common: we are all living in it.

Despite the fact that we all realize this, we still can't seem to figure a way out of controversy and conflict. We've overcome differences through wars and treaties. We've come together as separate countries to stop ones that were harmful. But no matter what good we have done to take a step forward, there's always a quick touch of a button and it's ten steps back. Whether it be about who's land is who's or what color skin someone has, there's always a problem. Is there any hope for fixing it? I don't think there's a chance.

Whether you call that a lack of faith on my part or not, it doesn't really matter. People are going to be ignorant, people are going to be stupid and that's all there is to it. No matter how much we preach unity and coming together as one, not every single person will ever see eye to eye and unfortunately there's nothing you or I can really do about it. There's no way to force open-mindedness and love into a person.

This past week there have been two tragedies that have shaken America. They have caused a lot of mourning and sorrow, but a lot of debating as well. The people of America have already been debating over the topic of gun control for weeks, months, years now and on top of it came more police brutality. At the end of the week, it caused the death of five police officers and many citizens.

The killing of the police officers stemmed from an incident where a white cop shot a black man in his car for not much of a reason at all. So yeah, that was a horrible situation and could have been avoided easily by the cop. But the world's problem is that we always have to react and get back at people which always makes things worse. Like I said people are ignorant and also stubborn. So instead of just one tragic death that night, a night later it turned to double digits including five men who serve to protect us.

So when does it end? I'll tell you this right now, it's never going to end if people don't stop putting the blame on an entire race or group of people when one person makes a bad decision. This past week, a white cop made a poor judgement that cost a life; so because of this one person, there was a black individual who was quoted saying, "I came here to kill white people." Why? Why make others suffer and put innocent people's lives at risk when one person of the same skin color as them did something wrong? Just stupid.

The bottom line is that there's just so much hate in people's hearts. From the beginning of time people were killed for no reason or kept as prisoners and as our world has evolved we have taken a huge step in becoming more equal and less violent but it's still nowhere where it needs to be.

Way too many lives are lost every day in this world because of pointless reasons. A lot of people say it's just racism. That's not all it is. There are huge issues between people of the same group every day too. The point is, nobody can see eye to eye no matter who they are and it's both disappointing and frustrating. It makes no sense why people can't just accept others and live their own lives.

As far as the issue of police brutality is concerned, there needs to be work done on both ends. People need to listen to officers and do what they are told and officers need to be more patient and not become violent and trigger happy without a real problem. It's a two-way street for most any problem that we see today.

Though the world as a whole may not get to a point of agreement and compatibility as we'd like it to, we can still at least change America. There have been way too many unnecessary issues in the past and there's no need for it. People have got to start showing empathy towards others and take a step in the direction of love and affinity.

Hate is wrong. Hate is bad. And hate can ruin many things and is the reason the world is where it is today. If we eliminate it, things could start to change. I guess the question is, how?

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
