They say college is supposed to be about classes, social life, and new experiences. But for me, my college career has been a completely different story. I am a full-time student who works two jobs. Would I change it? Probably not. Would I recommend it? Definitely Not.
When working this much, grades are still prioritized but sometimes aren’t the best. Social life consists of saying hi to friends when they pass by in the hall. You run on 3 to 6 hours of sleep on the average.
Here is why I wouldn’t change it though:
By the time I walk across the stage to receive my diploma, my work ethic will be so strong that I can prove myself to any employer and live a better work life too. I will have pride in saying I survived college, even through the toughest times.
I managed to balance work, school, church, and a sisterhood and still made it to graduation.
I may not have the most privileged life, but I know I don’t have the worst either. I don’t blame others for the situation I am in and take pride in turning them into better. Working two jobs has built my confidence, stamina, work ethic, positive mindset, and outlook on life. And I wouldn’t change that for the world.
