10 Reasons Working At The Library Is The Coolest Job Ever

Are you looking for a job that's enjoyable and educational? A place to meet awesome people and inspire your creative side? Look no further than the library!

Books, obviously!

J. Jones

I don't know about you, but I love to be surrounded by books. It gives me a cozy feeling to be around so much knowledge. Working at the library gives you tons of opportunities to see all kinds of books that have just come out and check them out to enjoy!

Therapy dogs

J. Jones

The dog pictured with me here is named Layla. She is part of a program we offer at the library called Tales to Tails. It is a program where anyone, especially children, is welcome to practice their reading while reading to a therapy dog. Working at the library gives you plenty of time to hang out with these adorable pups!

Crafts

Sondra and I

J. Jones

Not only will you meet wonderful people working at the library, like this woman, but you will get to participate in fun crafts! This particular craft was simple and just required cutting and folding. Now I have a grumpy cat!

Beautiful architecture

J. Jones

This particular picture was taken at the Corryville Branch Library. This branch first opened in 1907 with funds from the Andrew Carnegie Foundation. It underwent renovation in 1996 and reopened in 1997. This branch is just one of the many beautiful branches that the Cincinnati Library has. Spending time in these branches is like going back in time.

Discounts

Ren Fest

J. Jones

Working for the library gives you all kinds of perks, but the coolest one has to be discounts! Being a part of Cincinnati, working for the library gets you discounts to some of the coolest parts of Ohio, including Cincinnati Zoo, Cincinnati baseball games and even the Ohio Renaissance Festival.

After-hour activities

Zombie Halloween

J. Jones

You have many volunteer opportunities working for the library. The one pictured was when I took part in the After Hours Activity: Haunted Library! We got to decorate the stacks with Halloween decor and even gets wounds painted on us!

Making displays

J. Jones

Your creative skills will certainly come in handy working at the library. Putting together displays is one of my favorite parts of working at the library. This particular idea I stole off of Pinterest, but if you have an idea to go along with the season or a type of book, the options are endless!

Buttons

J. Jones

Aren't these buttons neat? I made all of this (excluding the Makerspace button) at my library branch! They were made with a super cool button maker. Anyone can use the button maker for a program, but working at the library gives me the opportunity to show off all these cool buttons! The main library in downtown Cincinnati contains all kinds of fancy machines in their Makerspace including laser cutters, audio and visual equipment and 3-D printers!

Helping childrenĀ

J. Jones

This picture is my cousin Elise and I posing next to her favorite book series. Working at the library has given me so many opportunities to help the public with all kinds of things. I have helped people find jobs, children find new book series they love, teens find volunteer work and complete projects and so much more. It's such a great feeling!

Being a part of the community

J. Jones

My absolute favorite part of working at the library would have to be getting to know my community. There's nothing quite like being out and about and running into a friendly patron or getting a thank you note for helping someone find a job. I love my community, and working at the library has helped me get close to people that I truly care for.

My job working for Cincinnati Public Library has been such a rewarding experience. It is the best job I have ever had, and I'll be sad to leave it when the time comes. I hope this article has shown you some of the fun parts of working for the library, and maybe someday you will give it a chance!

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast ā€œBirthdayā€ on anyoneā€™s birthday. I knew all of the words to ā€œBack In The U.S.S.Rā€ by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. Iā€™m not someone to ā€œfangirlā€ but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
