I stumble into my dorm around 10:30pm. Some nights this is not too late but on others one of my roommates is already fast asleep. On nights where my roommate is already deep into a slumber I take out my phone and fumble around my room with the handy belt in flashlight to guide. I find my towel, bathroom bag, and shower sandals before I head back out my dorm to head for the communal showers. I typically play music through my waterproof speaker but on nights were the dorm is already asleep I listen to the water fall towards the shower floor. At first coffee drips from my arms until I am leathered enough for only soap to fall. After my shower I slip into bed and finish homework that could not be done during the day. I fall asleep roughly between 1:00 and 2:00 a.m.
I have this same routine four nights out of the seven. It is not because I am partying or hanging with friends but because I am working eight hour shifts at a coffee shop.
Being a full-time student and a part-time worker is not something everyone can do or wants to do. We are the exhausted and determined, the first ones awake and the last ones to fall asleep. On the days I have off there are sporting events that I am partaking in and an internship to write for. Being a full-time student and a part-time worker is something that I signed up for. Not because coffee is my passion in life but because with a little fuel power - the coffee - and money from my job I can finish my degree and begin to live my passion.
