"When Words Fail, Music Speaks"

"When Words Fail, Music Speaks"

In America alone, an average person can listen to four hours of music in a day. Music is the "vocal or instrumental sounds combined to produce a form of harmony". Every day, we experience different types of music whether it is inside an elevator or simply waiting in the dentist office for your appointment to begin. Since infancy, I have been surrounded by various types of music, mostly African music, based on my cultural background. However, I have always enjoyed the other musical selections in the world, for example, country, soul, blues, and much more. I love the way that music speaks to our inner souls and the lyrics that tell a story of its own. Music has played a role in keeping everyone connected in the world, no matter anyone's race, gender, nor religion. It has helped us to also release our true emotions, relieve stress and tension. Sometimes, all you need is a particular type of music that sets the mood and makes you feel free to just breathe from the tough situation that you are in.

Music never formally had a beginning, except through the songs that were played by King David from 1200 B.C. Since 1200 B.C., there has been a big change to music ranging from the African drum sounds, the classical Mozart, Beethoven, to rock music, country, pop, rhythm and blues (R-n-B). Music is known as the universal language that anyone could understand and it has always been shown as great interest in everyone's lives through the good and bad times in life. It has been diversified in various categories to fit the taste of everyone, including me.

It is now being used to heal people as a form of therapeutic method for children and adults, which is becoming a popular new career. I believe that music brings life to every aspect of anyone's life, and any event that takes place. As an infant, I was surrounded by music all around, whether I was being taken care of by my grandmother or simply hearing a cassette tape being played. I recall the time that I heard a song that my aunt was listening to, which was how I started to say my first words. Can you imagine a baby saying their first words which are lyrics from a song? It is just shocking to even witness a baby singing along to a song. Ever since then, I always loved music and I never forgot the song that I sang as a baby.

As I was growing up, music was essential to me because it helped me through my hardships and made me feel like a whole new person. I was able to get through how I truly felt inside through music until today. If I am extremely happy, I will listen to music that makes me want to dance and feel free. Every emotion has a different song, even if you are in a horrible mood, you will want to find a song that will help to uplift you. Based on my upbringing, I would say that music has always been my first love and it will always be my first love. As my love for music increased, music with lyrics that have meaning, I found another love that was attached; singing. However, as of today, my second love eventually was lost and buried, but I am still trying to get back to my first love and then find the love that was attached to it.

So, ask yourself, what is my first love? If you realized that first love does not feel the same as it was, try to go back to the first love that made you who you are. They say that "if you love something, set it free if it comes back to you, it's yours". So if you go back to what you loved the most, and you start to fall back in love with your interest, then it is all yours .

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
