A Woman’s Worth
Understanding a woman’s worth is usually hard to do until you live with one, or in my case, four. And even then they remain a mystery in so many ways. Even with their strange ways, you begin to comprehend that there is more to a woman than the sexualized being the media has turned them into. Women have goals and desires outside of the stereotypical “Get married and have kids”. The women in my life are very vocal about that, and don’t let me forget it.
As men we have to remember they are our equals, in every way. Not lesser or submissive to us. Your opinion and feelings are just as valuable as hers. They are our “other half”, without at least one strong woman in your life you can't be your full self.
So when a man takes it upon himself to violate a woman, especially in the most sensitive and non-reversible way, there should ALWAYS be harsh punishments for such a horrible act. 6 months in prison teaches you nothing about the magnitude of your “20 mins of action”. I don’t care who you are, your horrific actions have altered someone else’s life forever. So statements like:
"A prison sentence would have a severe impact on him," Persky said. "I think he will not be a danger to others."
Are absolutely sickening. Are you kidding me? What about her? What about the severe impact you had on her life? This young woman’s trust in humanity is broken and her body has been taken, and that can never be given back. How can you say “I think he will not be a danger to others”, you mean not dangerous to other men? Because I think women everywhere will disagree strongly with you, and I disagree as well. Any man that would violate a woman, is dangerous. Take a second to think, what if that was your daughter, sister or mother? Some on the most loved and important women in your life. Suddenly it gets personal, and you begin to think, this young woman is someone's daughter and those people love her, and want justice for the horrific thing that happened to her! They have been stripped of that justice because "A prison sentence would have a severe impact on him"... really?
Every Woman has their Worth. As men we have to recognize their worth and stick up for them when injustices like this, or anything else happens.
