I voted for who could possibly have been the first female president of the United States.
She did not win.
The woman did not win over the man.
But women have not lost.
And this is not a battle against men. And men should not be kicked down. I believe that women can be brought up.
With or without a female president.
It will happen. A woman will be president.
And not just because she’s a woman. Women don’t need pity. A woman will be president and she will do it by being the more qualified candidate. By being the candidate with the tools America needs at that time.
She will not win out of vengeance or to prove a point.
A woman will be president.
But we cannot wait to do something until that time comes.
We must keep moving. We cannot afford to lose momentum.
We cannot wait for someone to do it for us; we must do it for ourselves, for our daughters, for our sisters, for our mothers. The idea that women are “less that (fill in the blank here)” is exactly that: an idea.
Change your mind. Change how you view women. For what is in the mind is in the arms, the legs. It becomes our bodies and our actions.
Be proud to be a woman. And if you’re not a woman be proud for women. Be proud for men: we are all equal.
If you believe this, if we teach this, if we live out this equality, amazing things will begin to happen. Women are not victims of our fate.
Stop giving feminism a negative connotation.
If you believe in equality of sexes, you’re a feminist, and that is a good thing.
That is a proud thing.
Do not be quiet. Be heard. This election may have broken some, but I hope for than anything it has inspired more. We cannot rely on one person to change things for us. If we want change, we must be that change.
We will be equal.
Never think that isn’t possible.
