To The Woman That Made Me Stronger, I Miss You Every Day, Mom
Ashley Cunigan

Dear Mom,

I'm going to try not to cry while writing this article, but there's no promise I'll be able to make it through without shedding a tear. You've been there for me since the very beginning, and I cannot thank you enough for everything you've sacrificed for me and my siblings. You're a fighter, a supporter, and the most loving woman I've ever met. Moving off to college, I didn't understand how much I needed to see you every day. No matter the distance, hometown visits will be made much more often, and I'm always a phone call away.

I know it was hard letting me go. We've been there for each other through thick and thin, in good times and in bad. You've always been my rock, the person I can count on to listen to my rants and ask for advice. Anytime I'm down or just need a little encouragement, you're always the person I run straight back to. I hope you know how much I appreciate your small favors and good night phone calls. Having someone there paying attention to my problems is something I'll never take for granted.

I first want you to know there's no other stronger woman on earth but you. You're not only my mother but my forever best friend. You never fail to amaze me with any of your abilities. You are a superwoman, capable of achieving any goal you have in mind. I'll always admire your perseverance and strong-willed mindset. You are the woman I strive to be.

Thank you for leading me along the right path. You've always made sure I had everything I need to be successful, and now I have the opportunity to follow my dreams. Whether it be putting food on the table, driving back and forth from practice or providing me a house to live in, you taught me what it means to be selfless. I miss not being able to experience these times with you, but I know you've instilled good qualities for me to make decisions on my own.

While we've shared many memories together, my favorite has to be graduation day. You reminded me what it was like to work hard for an award, and I wouldn't be the person I am now without you. Teaching me to always put God first and academics second, I have been able to share the Word with others while pursuing my passions. Before the ceremony began you made sure I had the perfect party to celebrate with friends and family. Catering my favorite foods, favorite people, and favorite memories - it couldn't have been any better. Walking across the stage that evening, I remember the smile on your face. You were so proud of my achievements, and I was thrilled to see you pleased.

Though I have left the nest, I hope Austin and Amanda will hang on to you tight. I learned from you and all the things we've been through that no one can replace a mother. Teach them the same things you taught me and continue to show them love and support. Try to find the good in every situation and understand that God is in control. Live your life to the fullest as no moment is ever the same.

I hope this article inspires you to keep moving and to stay strong. I love you with all my heart, forever and always.

- Ash

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
