Every time the holidays roll around, I find myself getting the same question from all of my family and all of my friends. "What do you want?". Well, this year to make it a little bit easier on anyone wondering what to get the broke college girl in their life, I have decided to make a list!
1) Socks- This may seem trivial and like a really crappy last minute present, but let me assure you, these will not go to waste. Most dorms can get kind of cold because of the crappy heating at this time of the year, and walking to and from class through the snow multiple times a day can lead to some wet fallen feet soldiers. Word of advice: The fuzzier the better!
2) Hot chocolate- You can't go wrong with a fancy hot chocolate set. The winter months are cold and trying and there is nothing better than coming home to than some fancy hot chocolate that comes with marshmallows and a peppermint spoon to mix it with. Take it from someone who is perpetually cold. She will love you for this!
3) Scarves, mittens, hats, and ear muffs- It seems like another basic one, but again, by this time of the year you need a little something to motivate you to go to class, and a matching winter necessities set is just the thing. Bonus points to you if you get the really soft and warm ones in her favorite color!
4) A planner- With a brand new year coming up, a fresh planner is exactly what is needed to remind yourself that you are almost there. College is rough and there is so much going on, but having a planner will help her pretend that she has her life together even if she doesn't. A personal recommendation: Lily Pulitzer!
5) A snuggly blanket- This one seems pretty self explanatory. It is cold, it is dreary, it is about to be a new stressful semester. Give her something to cuddle up with when she's tired. Extra brownie points to you if you can throw in a matching pillow or stuffed animal.
6) Gift card/money- If all else fails, I promise, no broke college student will hold a present of money against you. It is what we wish for on every 11:11 and every shooting star. The only word of advice is, if you are getting her a gift card, try to think about what store she would like. And if you don't know where she wants to shop, gift cards for her favorite restaurant or Starbucks are always acceptable as well.
