You just finished your Friday class… oh wait, no Friday classes because you created your schedule that way and it's actually Thursday so you are going out. You tell yourself you're starting your diet tomorrow because you know for a fact you’ll probably be at Taco Bell chowing down on some crunchy quesadillas at 2 a.m. Don’t get yourself down, you can lay out by the pool all day and sweat off those late night calories. So now it's summer and now what? Having to wait three months till you and your best girlfriends could spend the night dancing around the apartment or staying up all night gossiping with your roomies. The constant group texts of sending each other fitness motivation. College may be hard at times, yes. However, all of the memories of going out during the week, or laughing at breakfast because of that week’s festivity makes it so worth it. Studying with your besties during finals, going to chapter together, always having a gym buddy. This is what life is about and these are the best years of your life so embrace every moment. Now that summer is here what are you supposed to do without your best friends that live two doors down, or a floor away? Maybe you’re out of state or live thirty minutes from campus. It’s just not the same. Who knew the distance could hurt so much?
In summer you can’t just run into your parents room to tell them what happened the night before like you can in the dorms. Summers just don’t seem as appealing without your college friends. You try to keep in touch with high school friends but they’re all in different places as well. Everyone has internships, jobs, is studying abroad in various countries, and has different friends. You’ve come to the realization for the most part that you're not the same people you were in high school. There are really only a handful of your friends from high school you even want to keep in touch with. Since when did we grow up so fast? What happened to the summers of late night bonfires and watching fireworks over the lake. Going home for the summer just means more responsibilities and less freedom. You don’t feel you can even enjoy the summer as much as you did when you were younger. Now it’s the opposite. College is actually the vacation. The whole summer you wish you would’ve stayed at school, even if everyone else went home as well.
All you can do is continue to Facetime your besties even though they may be thousands of miles away and look forward to everything you have planned for the upcoming year. Yes the struggle has never felt so real. Three months feels like forever but will fly by. Soon you’ll be reunited and it’ll feel like nothing has ever changed. Your partner in crime, the frat stars you can’t live without, your whole squad ready to take on the new school year. New year, new us. Still the same wild adventures but maybe a little wiser, just maybe…;)
