When people from other states picture San Diego, they imagine beautiful beaches and people, blue skies and the glimmering warm sunshine radiating off the smiles of those who are lucky enough to call San Diego their home. The envy only intensifies when they realize this warmth and sunshine is pretty consistent 365 days a year. It is almost impossible to be unhappy during winter time in San Diego, and here’s why:
While people from other parts of the state and country are snowed in, stuck inside all day to escape the below freezing temperatures, San Diegans can go about their days in a crisp, 60 degrees Fahrenheit. However, if the thermometer drops to around 50 degrees, it might as well be snowing; for people raised in San Diego, this weather calls for some hot cocoa, a cozy blanket and Netflix.
The beach and the snow are both only a 45-minute drive away. Ah, one of the most luxurious aspects of San Diego. Even in the heart of winter, any day can be a beach day! While the rays may not be strong enough to kiss your skin and give it that golden glow, the beach is still a relaxing, and a completely reasonable option to spend the day. For all those dreaming of a white Christmas, it’s only a short drive out of San Diego where you can find snow, go sledding, build a snowman, have a snowball fight and enjoy all those winter activities. Saturday you can be shredding the ‘gnar snowboarding, while on Sunday you can be surfing at the beach. We get to enjoy the exciting and adventurous results of snow, but do not have to deal with the inconveniences on a daily basis. Before going to school or work, you do not have to shovel the snow off of your car, driveway, or worry about slipping on ice. Rather, after a fun snow day; we come back to San Diego and defrost.
People wear flip-flops and shorts all year long. If you have ever experienced being in the snow and having to use the restroom, it is the biggest inconvenience. All the layers you are wearing in order to stay warm have to come off, the toilet seat is frozen and while going to the bathroom, there are goosebumps on your bottom. In addition, stepping out of the nice hot shower, or trying to get out of your warm, cozy bed in the mornings are utter torture. Not having to deal with these problems are definitely a perk of living in San Diego. However, unfortunately, for the ladies it means having to shave your legs all year long.
San Diego is the best place to be whether its winter, summer, fall or spring.
