When December rolls around in State College, Pa., a covering of clouds, wind, ice and snow seem to hover over Happy Valley until the first sight of spring sun around mid March… if we’re lucky. However, while this dreary weather may cause every other form of life in the area to hibernate for the winter season, the students in University Park have to take on the climate’s challenges head on. Whether it is to walk to class or head to Fratland for the weekend’s adventures, one thing that can brighten up the season undoubtedly becomes your style. And there are plenty of winsome and effortless fashions for the 2010-2011-winter season.

Tops

An oversized cardigan is a great “going to class” staple. Throw on a big sweater with a pair of leggings or jeans for an effortlessly cute way to head off to class.

Fur is all the fashion this winter season. Try out a bold faux fur vest like this one from Urban Outfitters or a faux fur jacket. Just be sure not to use it as your “fratcket.”

Dresses

Bodycon skirts and fitted tube dresses have being a staple for sorority girls at social events. To spice up this classic look try a bondage dress with cutouts. A one long sleeved number with an exposed shoulder will spice up any winter celebration.

New Years Eve is a perfect time to showcase glitzy glamour. It is the one night of the year where wearing a dress made full of sequins is completely acceptable. Go all out. This multi-sequin dress from Urban Outfitters will have all eyes on you when the ball drops on New Years.

Want to look like a winter goddess? Try this white eyelet dress from Free People to prove you are a true snow angel. The subtle sparkle embellishment is a simple way to bring out the beauty in winter. Not to mention, this dress will be a family favorite at Christmas Eve dinner.

Also try this chiffon ruffled mini for an innocent winter chic look. The lightness to this skirt will have everyone who is bundled up envious of this winter option. This skirt is also a great layering piece that will carry into the spring and can be worn in a variety of ways.

Another way to show-off this season’s trend using cutouts is to reveal your back. A simple black dress in the front but a scandalous cutout back is a great way to conquer the winter weather and exhibit your confidence.

Shoes

Need a great boot for those dreaded snow-filled walks to class? Try a classic twist on the Bean boot. Freepeople.com has a waterproof and rubber soled snow boot available that will instantly make snow chic with its warm fur lining and lace up suede front.

Everyone needs a “go to” pump for those cold nights out. With a 5.5” heel these sparkly Steve Madden pumps will instantly make any winter outfit hotter. Wear them to vamp up an LBD or go all out rock star and pair these with a leather bomber jacket.

Accessories

For a great hands-free bag, splurge on the luminescent “Crossbody Sling” from Free People. Not only will this purse dress up a simple outfit, but also it is the perfect solution for holding your cell phone, lip-gloss, cash and ID for a night on the town.

Want to make a bold statement by simply using your hands? Try a three-fingered ring that will have everyone staring at your hand. This bold ring is a great way to glam up any outfit.

Try a bold necklace with a simple black or white outfit to give your look instant elegance. Don’t be afraid of a long multi-chain necklace or something with a lot of rhinestones. A good accessory is like a great friend.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
