Winter break is great. You finally get to go home, enjoy homemade food, and not worry about turning in twelve page papers. For the first week, things are fantastic, but it can go downhill pretty fast if you don't have much to do. Not to mention that your college pals are probably unavailable to hang out. Here are the triumphs and trials of winter break, as told by Avatar: The Last Airbender and Legend of Korra.
1. Excited to Be Done with School Work
The feeling of finishing your last exam or turn in you final paper is indescribable. Nothing is better.
2. Getting Home
Falling into your own bed and sleeping for god knows how long? Sign me up.
3. Buying Gifts
If you celebrate a gift giving holiday over winter break, you're one of two types of people: you LOVE getting gifts, or you HATE it. I'm definitely the first one.
4. Netflix Binges
Nothing is better than binge watching the latest season of your favorite show, or starting that series that absolutely everyone is raving about. Time to hang a giant "DO NOT DISTURB" sign on the door.
5. People Trying to Interrupt Netflix Binges
A disgruntled parent may not be ecstatic that you've locked yourself away in your room to finish the latest season of American Horror Story, but they're going to have to deal.
6. Annoying the Family Pet
Once the boredom sets in, you may turn to the family pet for entertainment. As much as your dog missed you, constant attention could rub them the wrong way after a while.
7. Makeup Up Tutorials
Okay, so hanging out with Fido has gotten old. What better time to try out that awesome makeup tutorial? It's not like you have anything better to do. Besides, how hard could it be?
8. Falling Down the Digital Rabbit Hole
So makeup isn't your calling. That's fine. Instead you turn to the comfort of the internet. But before you know it, it's three in the morning (kiss your responsible sleeping schedule goodbye). After three hours of reading Wikipedia articles and following countless Reddit threads, you've realized that the Illuminati and Obama have a secret rabbit farm hidden at the center of the Earth that is guarded by Tupac and a near identical clone of Vladimir Putin, distinguishable only by the birthmark on his left thigh shaped like big foot. It's probably time to get some sleep...
9. Neglecting Hygiene
It has been three days since your last shower. You sleep until noon (at least) most days. The outfit your wearing has been reused for the past two days. Well, it's not so much an outfit. A mess would probably be more accurate. But hey, sweatpants are for comfort, not stye,
9. The Intervention
Okay, things are getting a little out of hand and your parents/guardians have taken notice. It's time to wake up before noon, do the laundry, and have some sort of social interaction every day until you go back to school. It's for your own good.
10. Ready to Go
Winter break has been great and all, but you're ready to go back to school. You miss your friends, and (don't tell the professors) you miss having something to do. The last few days seem to last FOREVER.
11. Okay, Maybe Not Ready
Going back isn't all fun. You know that you'll miss your family and hometown friends. Once homework starts piling up you'll miss being able to do nothing for hours on end.
12. The Aftermath
Your parents love you, but after you go home, they are absolutely psyched.
