It’s no surprise that the majority of the people on the East Coast prefer summer as opposed to winter. There is something about the ocean and the barbeques that seem more appealing than snowball fights and hot chocolate. However, the winter can prove to offer more love and happiness. The truth is winter brings people together like no other season.
About two weeks ago I was driving around New York with my sister. It wasn’t long before we saw a group of men pushing a car out of the snow. After they successfully helped the driver get out of his bind they all retreated to their cars. My sister turns to me and says, “They all came from different cars,” to exaggerate the fact that we just watched complete strangers come together to help someone in need. It seems that helping others is prevalent during the winter as it is easier to spot those in need, whether they are having car troubles or can’t make it through the knee high snow.
No matter what holiday you celebrate, the winter is a time for celebration! Winter is the season of giving. Gifts allow us to show our loved ones how much they mean to us. Unless there is a birthday or graduation, the summer does not grant us as many opportunities to give. The holidays are also an amazing opportunity for the entire family to get together.
Hanging out with your loved ones at the beach is definitely a blast. While there are many things to do at the beach, most people prefer to just relax and tan independently. These laid back activities differ from the interactive fun the winter offers. Skiing, snowball fights and sledding are great ways to embrace the snow and have fun with others. Even when the snow is at its worse, keeping us trapped inside, we’re given the chance to play games and bond with our family.
There is no denying that summer is absolutely awesome. Take it from someone who lives on the water. But why do people despise winter so much? Why is summer advertised as “the better season”? Winter undoubtedly brings people together like no other season, however if you remain optimistic, you can find happiness in every season.
