Finals week. The week that every student dreads is right around the corner. What used to be months away at the beginning of the semester is now only a few weeks away, and the feeling of impending doom is probably currently hitting you.

Do not think of it as a feeling of impending doom though; think of it as a successful completion to a busy semester. You have probably dealt with multiple weeks that seemed like they would never end because you would have test after test or project after project. You may have had to deal with starting a new job so now on top of classes and studying you now had to deal with working part time. You might have had to apply for grad school, nursing school or law school and the result of that application has been a yes. All of these things have one thing in common; you survived.

Yes, finals week might seem scary because of the fact that you have multiple tests in the same week that may or may not be cumulative and worth 10-15% of your grade, but you have had weeks similar during this semester that you have survived. You have survived weeks where you have had multiple tests in the same week, sometimes on the same day. You have survived weeks where you had to work a bunch of hours on top of having to studying for a major test. You have survived weeks where you had quizzes on top of tests on top of projects on top of papers. If you are sitting at your computer or looking at your phone reading this article then you have survived these week.

You might even be going through one of these weeks now because professors always like assigning last minute projects, tests, quizzes, and papers during the weeks leading up to finals week. Each time you complete an assignment though think of it as one step closer to summer vacation and being done with the semester. Count down the days until the end of the semester if you have to if that makes you feel better. These weeks will probably fly by and before you know it you will be sitting on the beach with your feet in the sand not thinking about school.

Also, just think about it though, when you finally make it to finals week all you have to focus on is your final exams and nothing else. You do not have to worry about balancing your time between studying for tests or quizzes, or writing papers on top on your final exams because all you will have left to compete is your final exams. By then your classes are over, your organizations are done for semester, and all you have to worry about is taking a few exams.

It might not look like it is right now but the end is in sight and you can make it through these next few weeks. Soon it will all be over and you will have survived yet another semester.

Good luck with your finals week and may your grades be ever in your favor!

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.
