My favorite part of summer is my family's annual vacation. I always look forward to vacation because it's nice to just get away from my daily routine life. We usually plan our trip six to eight months in advance and try to figure out our ideal destination. This year was quite easy to chose a destination because its the summer I turn 21. So Las Vegas, Nevada was the place we chose to vacation this year, of course.
Living in Oklahoma and traveling to Las Vegas via car was nothing short of a long drive. So that meant the drive was split into two days and iconic destinations/stops were mapped out along the way. Since we drove along historic route 66 that meant there were plenty of destinations to stop along the way. One which I chose way in advance is known as the Wigwam Motel located in Holbrook, Arizona. The Wigwam Motel chain was built during the 1930s and 1940s
There are 15 concrete teepees (Wigwam's) in a half circle around the property. In front of each Wigwam there is a vintage automobile permanently parked. The vintage cars give the motel a charming characteristic to it and also add to its retro-feel.
According the the Motel's website, "Each teepee is 21 feet wide at the base and 28 feet high. The teepees are painted white with a red zigzag above the doorway. Rooms feature the original hand-made hickory furniture, and each is equipped with a sink, toilet, and shower."
Even though I did not get to stay at the Wigwam Motel I did get the chance to look inside one. They are surprisingly spacious. I think Wigwam's were the original "tiny home" before it was cool.
