Most college students come to college not knowing what career path to follow or major to choose. It is totally normal for students to change their major while they're in college.
There is nothing wrong with changing your major more than once. I had friends change their major more than four times until they found their calling. When it came to choosing my major, my path was a little different.
Senior year of high school, I was ready to enlist in the United States Marine Corps. I took the ASVAB test and got an 80 on it. You need at least a 32 on the ASVAB to pass it. All I needed was to take the physical fitness test, get my health checked out and I was ready to enlist. Before taking the physical fitness test though, I thought of different paths I could take.
Since I love working with kids, I thought of jobs I could do that involve children. I thought of becoming a social worker, an elementary teacher or a guidance counselor.
A social worker is a stressful job with responsibilities I know I cannot handle. A guidance counselor is a wonderful job, but it does not connect me with children to the level I want. Finally, I chose to pursue a teaching career, rather than enlist in the USMC.
I chose to pursue a career in teaching for several different reasons. The main reason I chose teaching was because I want to help children learn and grow. Teaching is one of the jobs where you can make a direct impact on the lives of children. We all know that teachers do not make a lot of money. To me, it does not matter how much money you make, as long as you love your job that is all that matters.
I want to be the teacher that still has hope in them when nobody else does. I want to be a teacher full of Jesus and that children see something different in me.
Children are special in my opinion. There's so much of their personality to love. They are one of the few parts of society whose hearts still remains pure.
Proverbs 22:6 Start children off on the way they should go, and even when they are old they will not turn from it.
