In the year 2016, having lived 20 years on this beautiful earth as a black male, I am rarely surprised. I must admit that seeing someone such as Donald Trump have the chance to become President doesn’t surprise me either. America is a country that was founded on white supremacy, factually speaking. So to see someone that is obviously racist have a chance at being named President is exactly why the United States is declining as a country. Mr. Trump would easily be one of the worst Presidents in American history. Here are 3 reasons why:
1. Flawed Philosophy
Donald Trump’s entire political mission is to “Make America Great Again”. According to him that means to restore the United States to a level of global dominance. Rather than focusing on domestic issues such as the water crisis in Michigan, police brutality, and gun control, he devotes his self to foreign affairs. Building a wall to guard us from the outside doesn’t fix what’s going on inside the walls. America has very real problems that need to be fixed, and Donald Trump isn’t providing any solutions.
2. No Political Experience
When applying for a job you are usually asked to present a resume that highlights your skills and work experience. Based off the information you provide the employer decides if they want to hire you. Presidential elections work differently. Mr. Trump has been able to make it as far as the general election based off media attention rather than political experience. Saying and doing things that keep him in the spotlight because as the famous saying goes, “there is no such thing as bad publicity”. Trump has no political experience and expects to be able to handle the gargantuan task of Commander-in-Chief. That is the definition of absurdity.
3. He's Culturally Insensitive
The job description for President of the United States is surely extensive. Amongst the various tasks you must complete on a daily basis speaking with people is somewhere on that list. The President in particular is entitled to speak with citizens of all backgrounds, along with making occasional trips to foreign countries. Trump has shown that he is racially insensitive a number of times. Having a President that isn’t capable of properly communicating with those from a different culture is a guaranteed way to cause conflict.
The United States is stuck at a fork in the road. On the left you have Hillary Clinton, while on the right there’s Donald Trump. Both candidates have their strengths and weaknesses, but only one road leads to progression rather than regression. It’s important to vote whenever there is an election. This is the year for America to make a correct turn into prosperity rather than dysfunction. Donald Trump should not be President of the United States.
