" Stick to the stuff you know/ If you wanna be cool/ Follow one simple rule/ Don't mess with the flow, no no/ Stick to the status quo". Chad and his awesome hair sing it in the original "High School Musical," but what if he was actually wrong? As the movie proves, you can be a jock who likes to bake, or a nerd who likes to dance, or even a skater (stoner) dude who likes to play...the cello?
Despite the catchy tunes and Zac Efron's beautiful face, "High School Musical" actually teaches us an important life lesson: you can be whoever you want and do whatever you want because you don't have to stick to the status quo.
Through high school, I found myself struggling to define who I was. I wanted to have one thing that I was known as because everyone seemed to have a label; Taylor the soccer player, Lizzie the band girl, Rachel the smartie pants. But I look back on it and see that I had so much going on for myself. I was working and kept up in school while also being very active in clubs and my school's yearbook. No, I wasn't a jock, or a nerd, or a musical theatre "geek", but I was me.
I personally find people so much more interesting when they have different aspects and layers to who they are. Why be a just the guy who likes to skateboard when you can be that really smart guy in math class who I always see skateboarding and who also like musical theatre? Or similar to our buddy Troy, play football in the fall and then perform in the spring musical.
Own every single piece of you and don't be afraid to try new things, even if it may not fit who you are at the moment. You may find yourself discovering a piece of you that you didn't even know was there (like Troy and his singing) and end up following that (like Troy going to Julliard). *Obviously I go to "High School Musical" for advice and support in all major life decisions*
So, even though I love Chad and his playful hair, I think he got it wrong with this one. Plus, even though he says he doesn't dance, we all know that he can, so maybe he is a little more complex than even he thinks.
