Let's face it: Nobody wants to sit inside on a nice summer afternoon and do homework or study when they could be out at the pool. So why do so many people take summer classes? As someone who always said I would never take classes during the summer and yet has a final exam tomorrow, I can explain why summer classes are actually pretty great. Now, I haven't had the experience of taking them in person and on campus, but I have friends who are taking summer classes on campus and I can see why that could be a great experience too. If nothing else, taking a summer class online should definitely be an option in your mind, and here's why.
1. Summer classes are short.
Five weeks. That's how long you'll spend doing some homework for an hour or two a week. You still get your weekends off, and since the days are longer in the summertime, you'll have plenty of time for tanning and being at the pool.
2. Summer classes lighten your load in the fall.
Fifteen. That's the number of credit hours needed to graduate in four years if you take no summer classes. Taking summer classes allows you the option of taking 12 hours in the fall semester, which would give you more time to focus. Juggling four classes is much easier than juggling five.
3. Online summer classes are convenient.
You get to do the work for your classes on your time (for the most part). You might have a certain time that you have to turn things in by, but you can log on anytime throughout the day and respond to the discussion board or do your assignment for the day. It creates the flexibility needed for a summer schedule.
4. It maintains a consistent routine.
Many times it takes people a few weeks after the fall semester starts to get back into the swing of things because they haven't studied or done homework in three months. Taking at least one summer class online will keep your brain active and will keep you on track.
Summer classes sound like a terrible thing. I even had someone ask me this week why on earth I was taking classes online. What they don't realize is that taking summer classes doesn't cause any inconvenience at all. I still get to go to work and make money. I still get to go out on dates. I still get to exercise. I get to do everything that I would be doing regardless of taking summer classes, but I also have the opportunity to get some of the classes that I need out of the way so I can get ahead for the fall.
