Today's a big day. Today is the day you're going to stop being such a huge jerk. Whether or not you would like to admit it, you've spent the past several years of your life acting like William Zabka in The Karate Kid. Let's be real: nobody wants to be Zabka. Today's the day you're going to want to become more like Macchio. And here's why.
There are a few things in your life that are so easy to change to improve your happiness. However, you're been refusing to change because you have become so set in your jerky ways that you think its impossible for you to be a better person. This isn't true.
So here's what you have to do. Forgive people that deserve forgiveness, because if you're being honest with yourself, the whole thing was probably your fault anyways. Holding onto grudges is not good for your mental health, or your acid reflex for that matter.
Stop living to please other people. If someone doesn't like you for who you are, that's okay. If you spend your entire life being the version of yourself that you think will get you invited to parties, then you are doing it wrong.
You have probably been judging people by the way that they look. That is the most critical error you could make. I am sure that the hot guy that you've had your eye on is probably the male second coming of Mother Teresa. 100%. Hold on to that. However, the kid with the glasses that is too afraid to lift his head out of a book is probably alright as well. Invite him to something. You will probably like him better.
You are no better than anybody else. There is no reason to make others feel bad because you want to feel "exclusive". Make a point to be inclusive. Make "the more, the merrier" your mantra, and let everyone feel like they are part of your ultra cool posse.
Even if you are selfish and you don't care about changing your ways to improve the lives of others, you should still do it just to improve your own life. Happiness doesn't come from the way your friends look or your ability to hold a grudge. It comes from the quantity and quality of the good people you have in your life. If you live your life always attempting to make others happy, odds are some of that happiness will rub off on you as well. Help others to help yourself. Be positive. And stop being such a huge jerk. Please.
