We all know what we should be doing during the Fall. It's the same basic stuff you did the year before, and the year before that. But there's a reason why we keep doing what we're doing each Fall. This stuff keeps us all together; it keeps us all a community. You've done it all the past 5, 10, 15 years. Why stop now?
1. Pumpkin patch/ apple orchard visits.
The weather is great, the scene is beautiful. Both pumpkin patches and apple orchards are prime photo-opp locations for anyone—friends, families, couples. Both locations result in going home with some kind of goody: hot chocolate, apple cider donuts, pumpkins, or apples. With the weather getting colder, our moods can worsen. Places like these have the perfect atmosphere to lift your spirits, even if just for a while.
2. Carving pumpkins.
You have complete freedom to express yourself. Carve in your favorite Halloween pun, basic pumpkin face, or favorite sports team logo. Your neighborhood is your pumpkin gallery. Make yours one to remember by channeling your inner child and getting creative! Not to mention, you can make roasted pumpkin seeds—one of the yummiest Halloween-time snacks.
3. Haunted houses.
Not only is this the perfect time of year to step out of your comfort zone, it’s also an excuse to get close to those you love. All personal space boundaries are broken in haunted houses—you nervously shove people in front of you until you realize something’s behind you and have to push your way back to the front again. You’re not safe anywhere. Better hold each other tight. Whether you go on a date or with a pack of friends, you always leave haunted houses with some good stories to tell.
4. Regular maze/ haunted maze.
If you like to say being scared isn’t fun, taking a nice trip through a regular corn maze can be just enough to get your mind active for the day. If you go with people you enjoy being around, you won’t even mind getting lost for a couple hours. Haunted mazes are fun, too, though. The thrill of not knowing when you’ll be jumped out at adds so much spice to a regular corn maze.
5. Tailgate any football game.
You know what a tailgate means: food, drinks, and more food and drinks. Football brings people together—good times with good people. Whether your team gets the W or not, at least you had a good time tailgating, right?
6. Watch all those old Halloween movies.
Feeling nostalgic? Break out Halloweentown or Hocus Pocus. Any excuse to cuddle up in your comfiest pajamas and drink some hot chocolate should be taken advantage of. Find those people who will spend all day Saturday binging on Halloween movies with you.
7. Go on a hike.
The leaves are only these colors once a year! Staying active is always a good idea, but especially during this time of year. The air is crisp—just cold enough for boots and just warm enough to leave the winter coat at home. Give yourself a day to take a trip by foot with good company. Get lost together.
8. Jump in your freshly-raked leaf pile.
We all try to relive our childhood in some way! Enjoy immersing yourself in the fallen leaves. Embrace every crunch. While you're at it, throw your dog in there for a cute photo.
