If you've been chowing down on meat your entire life then transitioning to a plant-based diet isn't going to be easy. But it isn't impossible, and it's worth it.
I recently dived into this world in November of last year. Now, I didn't quit eating meat instantly. I eased my mind and body into it. Around May, I fell off the wagon. I gave up my vegetarian diet in favor of the traditional meat lovers lifestyle. Now, it's August and I'm currently diving back in.
Without further ado, here are three simple reasons I went back to being vegetarian and why you should.
It's Healthy.
Hello. duh. Didn't your grandma tell you eating your greens is good for you? Before, all you carnivorous people start shouting "where is the protein?", sit down because this may be hard to hear. Vegetables have protein, too. I know crazy, right? Toss in the nuts and grains and a vegetarian diet can be packed with protein. Just in case, here is a list of vegetarian protein sources. It's Cheaper.
Meat is expensive, and if you're trying to survive on a college budget then meat is REALLY expensive. You can get fruits and vegetables for a fraction of the cost you would pay for a pound of chicken. Especially, if you buy in-season produce, and here is a list that details the different vegetable and fruit seasons. If a college student thinks eating a vegetarian diet is cheaper, then it must be cheaper. But don't just take my word for it. See how much money you could save.
Good For You, Good For The Planet.
This is the all-encompassing reason. The best reason, by far. Being a vegetarian is a selfish act and a selfless act. Confusing, yes. Generally speaking, people choose this lifestyle because their health matters to them, but in a broader sense choosing to be vegetarian immensely benefits animals and the place we all call home. I have my grounds for going vegetarian, but there's no point in me telling you my causes. You need to create your own basis for changing your lifestyle.
