It can be hard to find a new favorite show.

Why You Should Give "The OA" A Chance
The Daily Dot

When scrolling through the wide selection Netflix has to offer, it is sometimes hard to find something good. If you're like me, you probably feel like you've already watched everything worth seeing on Netflix. What's great about this time of year though, is that there is a constant flow of new shows and movies being added. A new Netflix original caught my eye and kept me hooked. "The OA" is only one season and to be honest, I finished it in one day.

Here are five reasons why you should give "The OA" a chance:

1. There's nothing else like it

The show follows the story of a 20-year-old girl, Prairie, and unwraps how she went missing seven years before. At the time of her disappearance, she was blind and now she has come back home with her sight intact. Not wanting to give away too much, all I can say is that this original idea is worth your attention.

2. It will keep you hooked

There are a lot of shows with interesting plots that just don't live up to their potential, but "The OA" will keep you hooked. Prairie takes you back to the beginning of her story and doesn't spare any details. Through all eight episodes, you will learn a new layer of the story which will only keep you wanting more.

3. The cast

You will see some familiar faces as you watch this show. Prairie's mother, Alice Krige, from "Star Trek" and father, Scott Wilson, from "The Walking Dead". Also, Phyllis Smith, from "The Office", plays an interesting role. The one that surprised me the most was to see Jason Isaacs, from "Harry Potter" without long white hair. But some of the most enhancing aspects of the show are the lesser known actors, like Emory Cohen who plays Homer, and Patrick Gibson who plays Steve Winchell.

4. It's underrated

Almost always I start watching a show because it's what everyone is talking about or it's nominated for some big award, but "The OA" is yet to be a widely recognized show. You won't have to worry about seeing spoilers everywhere or unwitting classmates ruining the ending. You will want to tell all your friends to watch it though, because you'll need someone to talk about it with.

5. The ending

A lot happens in this show and you will be left with a lot of question, but doesn't that make a good ending? How season one ends is set up perfectly for the necessity of a second season. You will be angry, frustrated and confused, but who really wants all the answers after one season? Not me.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
