There are many people who come to college and this is their first time ever getting out of their sheltered lives. Then there are others who have seen practically the whole world and the big change doesn't phase them. The thing that everyone has in common when coming to college, no matter how prepared they are, is there is no way to tell how the year will go. The best way to find your place in college though is by getting involved. Here's is what you should remember as you get involved in your new school.
1. Everyone who is coming to college is getting a fresh start.
That fresh start can change your life in many good ways if you take advantage of it instead of wasting it. This is your opportunity to do what you may have wanted to do or b who you wanted to be.
2. Join the clubs.
Yes, by joining a club you can discover your likes and dislikes. This also allows you to explore your likes and dislikes. By doing this you can better your skills you already have or develop new ones. It is never too late for that, so go and do it.
3. Don't be shy.
Everyone you see around you is also nervous for the year ahead. Those people are searching for friends and are talking to new people constantly. You should too. Who knows, maybe that person can be your life long best friend. It is not weird to just strike up a conversation with someone you don't know. They will be glad that you were the one who started it. As you do it more, you will find it is easier each time.
4. Resume builder.
By getting involved in your college, you are getting new experiences that may be worthy of being put on your resume. It is not a waste of time for you to go out there and do what you wanted to do, it will probably look good on your resume too. In the end, you will be glad that you did it.
5.Teachers are your friends.
Talk to them. They are there to show you the right way and the only way to know which way to go in your class is by talking to them. Become that bleep on their radar and they will show appreciation for your hard work and actually caring for their class. They also have a life time of experiences, so if it's a class that you are interested in or a topic that you are majoring in, talk to them even more. They are the ones who will be able to give you good advice as to what the right steps to take when it comes to your major or minor. Teachers are not your enemy, so don't avoid them just because you are too scared to talk to them. You will be missing out on a lot, so go and make that first step to that bright future.
