If you've ever listened to British pop rock band The 1975 you know there's nothing else like them. If you have not listened to them I strongly urge you to do so as soon as possible. Their sound is 80s inspired pop rock yet every song is uniquely different, their lyrics are heartfelt and exposed, and their concerts are an experience like none other. Though they haven't released an album in two years, they are set to release their third studio album in 2018 so right now is the perfect time to jump on The 1975 bandwagon.
One of the best things about the music of The 1975 is the lyrics. The lead singer, Matty Healy, is unapologetically honest in his songs as he sings about love, heartbreak, and even mental health. With lyrics that range from "I searched all day it drove me insane/Where would I be if I was my brain?" to "I'm the Greek economy of cashing intellectual cheques" there seems to be no limit to the creativity or depth of Matty Healy's lyrics. Each album they've releases also includes a few instrumental songs that are calming and manage to convey deep messages without any words.
Another aspect of The 1975 that drew me to their music is their visuals. All of their music videos add a whole new element to their songs and provide insight to the viewer about what the songs actually mean. Their concerts also have a large visual aspect which makes the whole experience a treat for the eyes and ears. They use colors to represent the different emotions of their songs which results in a show that is both soothing and exciting. If you have never checked out the 1975 it is certainly not too late, a friend of mine once described their music as "pizza to my ears". If that doesn't prove how good they are, I don't know what will.
